Welcome to Town of Monroe!
The Town of Monroe is a beautiful rural area along Petenwell Lake that is off the Wisconsin River. Many of us know the town as the beloved older name Monroe Center. Though historically a farming community, Monroe is largely a recreation/retirement destination at this time. With large forest tracts and 16.6 sq. miles of water, wildlife is in abundance. You can see White-tailed deer, red fox, Eastern Wild Turkey among others. Many Bald Eagles are home here, using the tall trees to find meals in the fields and in the lake.
The Town of Monroe hosts Petenwell County Park, Monroe Town Park, part of the Van Kuren Trail and other common areas open to the public. Public tracks of land are open that are owned by Wisconsin River Power Company and Sand Valley Restoration Fund. ATV trails, Snowmobile trails, and hiking trails are available. County Road Z that transects the town has an extended bike lane throughout.
Surrounding Townships are Rome, Big Flats and Strongs Prairie. Juneau County is to the west across the lake. Close by in Adams County is Roche-A-Cri State Park, Rabbit Rock Wayside and 21 other rock formations.
